Integrative Restoration (iRest)
Integrative Restoration (iRest) is a contemporary process developed by Richard Miller, PhD, based on the ancient practice of Yoga Nidra. Richard Miller is a seasoned psychologist with a background in yoga and meditation, who offers training in iRest nationally and internationally. This process of iRest plays a vital role in many aspects of Hannah Caratti's work, finding expression in yoga classes, meditation groups, and counseling.
In over 20 years of teaching yoga and meditation, Hannah had developed her own version of Yoga Nidra, "the Sleep of Yoga" that allows practitioners to experience the peace and contentment that is our true nature. In recent years, Hannah has participated in trainings and retreats offered by Richard Miller, her mentor, in the practice of Yoga Nidra/iRest. These trainings have inspired Hannah to learn and utilize the iRest protocol as taught by Richard Miller, PhD.
Here is Yoga Nidra/iRest in a nutshell:
- This can be done in a group setting or in individual counseling.
- Participants sit or rest in a supine relaxation pose.
- They begin by setting their intention for the session, and envisioning their own heartfelt desires or personal goals as if they are already true.
- Clients are guided to access an Inner Resource that is a safe refuge for them. It could be a memory of feeling loved, accepted, peaceful and safe, or the presence of a spiritual guide.
During the next part of the iRest process, participants scan the status of their breath, body, emotions, and thoughts. At each step there is a healing process that includes feeling what you feel, and then accessing the opposite emotion, and feeling that as fully as possible. Finally, practitioners are guided to identify with their inner Self, the peaceful, compassionate witness of all that is happening at the physical, emotional, and intellectual levels. Ultimately, the iRest process allows participants to come home to the most nurturing and supportive aspects of their own inner Self.
